# Merefield Foods: first-shift induction storyboard

**Fictional business and demonstration. Review draft, not a finished video or approved induction.**

Gray Risk Advisory | MF / SB-01 | v0.1 | 18 October 2026

Purpose: reinforce supervisor contact, assigned task boundaries and the decision to pause and ask. Scope: manual cartoning of sealed oat-slice pouches at a fictional Victorian food manufacturer. Planned duration: 60 seconds. Timing is a production target to confirm in rehearsal.

| Time | Visual direction | On-screen words | Narration |
|---|---|---|---|
| 00-15 sec | Starter waits at the induction point. Supervisor arrives, introduces themselves and begins the site tour. | Start with your supervisor. | Before you enter the packing area, meet your supervisor. Raise any health concern. They will show you the hygiene routine, the route and where to get help. |
| 15-30 sec | After the hygiene routine, the supervisor demonstrates placing sealed pouches into a carton. Starter practises while supervisor observes. | Only the task you have been shown. | Watch the demonstration, then practise with your supervisor. Today, your task is manual packing. Machinery, adjustments and product-release decisions are outside this task. |
| 30-45 sec | Close-up of expected oat-slice label beside a pouch labelled cocoa slice. Starter stops packing. No food is opened or handled. | Different label? Pause your task. | A label does not match what you were shown. Pause your task. Do not guess, relabel the pouch or decide that it is safe to pack. |
| 45-60 sec | Starter speaks to supervisor from a safe position. End frame holds the three actions and a discussion question. | Pause. Step clear if safe. Ask. / Wait for a confirmed next step. | Step clear if safe and tell your supervisor what you noticed. If they are unavailable, keep the task paused. Restart only after their checks. What would you do? |

## Facilitator follow-through

Discuss who the supervisor is, how to reach them and what to do if they are unavailable. Ask the starter to explain the task limits. Observe practice and record any further learning and supervision needed. A film or quiz does not establish competence or authorise independent work.

## Production requirements

Retain a prominent fictional-demo label on this sample. For commissioned production, validate actual controls, people, location and wording with the document owner and relevant workers. Confirm safe staging, filming consent and approved use of images before recording. Use readable captions, a full transcript, clear speech and an accessible playback experience. Review language and literacy needs and offer supported discussion or suitable translated materials where needed. Do not rely on colour or narration alone to communicate a decision. Check the proposed 15-second scene timings against the final narration read before release.

Source mapping: scenes 1-2 cover fictional procedure sections 1-3; scenes 3-4 cover section 4; facilitator follow-through covers section 5. This storyboard intentionally reinforces selected decisions and must accompany the full induction and task instruction.

## Practice questions and answers

1. Your supervisor has not arrived. What next? **Wait at the induction point.** Entry and the assigned task need supervisory confirmation. Do not copy another worker or delay the induction until after starting.
2. A pouch has a different product label. What next? **Pause and tell the supervisor.** Do not relabel, pack or make a product-release decision yourself. If the supervisor is unavailable, keep the task paused.
3. The starter answers every question correctly. Is that enough? **No.** The supervisor still observes the task, addresses learning needs and records follow-up. The questions do not authorise independent or machinery work.

General principles were checked against WorkSafe Victoria induction and general duty guidance and FSANZ hygiene and skills guidance on 18 October 2026. Links are listed in `fictional-procedure.txt`. The fictional scenario is not evidence of client outcomes, accreditation or compliance certification.
